Usually, as you approach homelessness, all of the familiar support systems may break down, friendships, intimate relationship(s), jobs, residential stability. Then there is the gradual decline in the amenities of life—your car may break down and not be able to be fixed, a key factor in decline. So in that instance, you find yourself walking, taking busses, bumming rides. Could be worse, admittedly, but it is the actual decline that is often disorienting and depressing. Now is a good time to reach out for professional help or social services, but a many folks put this off, thinking that they can recover their equilibrium on their own. But this may not be a true assessment.
