There is a very good song by Tim McGraw, “Please Remember Me.” We all have this desire to be remembered by those whom we consider are significant others. But it doesn’t always work out that way. The other person may not share this feeling of significance of the relationship. It is painful to realize that you might never have been considered a friend, much less a special friend. I guess it’s part of growing up to be able to deal with this adequately, but it can still hurt a lot, and can be hard to understand. How and why does such a disparity of perception and feeling occur?

So you might never have forgotten an old “friend,” while they may not have remembered who you are, in more than a a superficial way…
