As Obama said, let this be a year of action, but well-considered action, measured action, intelligent action, responsible action, action to not only better the self but also the nation.
Let this be a year when adversaries in Congress will put away their animosities and addiction to self-gain and work together to achieve significant goals. Let this be a year when the media will put aside their addiction to sensationalism and the stoking up of drama seemingly to increase ratings. Let this be a year in which political and religious extremism will be rejected by the nation, once and for all.
Let this be a year in which friends and families will put aside addiction to conflict or cold silence and act to really open lines of communication that will heal the relationships. Let this be a year in which we put aside destructive cynicism and negativism, ad learn the meaning of hope once again.
Let this be a year in which each individual will have the courage to take responsible action alone, if those around him or her refuse to put their shoulders to the wheel when joint action is absolutely called for. You had it right, Barack. Let this be a year of action.
Finally, let this be a year of highly creative action!
