The breakdown of job stability is also associated with homelessness, of course. But this process may well precede the actual homelessness. Job loss is extremely demoralizing and may send one into an emotional tailspin that results in dysfunction in a variety of areas. Loss of regular income is devastating. It can cost a lot of money today to rent even an efficiency nowadays. And a single room can be enormously depressing. All of these negative emotions and dysfunction as well as practical barriers can lead directly into homelessness.
