“If a man is bad, do not abandon him.” (Lao Tzu and Jesus (paraphrasing). I agree, and yet it is a scary thing, and may seem hopeless. You have to somehow believe that that person has the potential. It is difficult, if you see them lacking a conscience (being a sociopath). Hard, too, because we have all done bad things in our lives, and must believe we are capable of change. But I find that I can pick out one or two, and keep up communication with them, and more than that, a really supportive friendship. The latter, what we all need. Not to lecture the other person, but rather walk beside her or him.
