Medical care is very important for everyone. But especially so for someone in the state of homelessness. We all know that ER’s are not the best place to receive primary care (listen up, Republicans). But indigent, homeless people often must turn to the ER for help. Sometimes, there is an underlying prejudice among SOME ER staff toward the indigent; this prejudice can result in inferior care. However, these professionals are overworked and overstressed to begin with, so be patient with them. Explain your situation and they may refer to social services or for mental health care.

Have you had to use the ER for primary care and how did it go?
