When I was homeless, I observed that often folks in that situation DO NOT reach out to others all that much. They are usually consumed by their own situation. Understandable. This is the reality of the situation. But when you do reach out, realize that there are serious limitations on what you can accomplish. Sometimes simple friendship is the best you can offer. But don’t become consumed by others’ problems; if you take, it may take your focus off what YOU need to do to regain residential and other kinds of independence. Also, realize that there are some individuals who will drag you down because they are that kind of people–users of your time or what little money you have. A word to the wise.
