people who worry about a scratch on their car
and curse out someone who they imagine did it
and spread bad feelings
people who walk around the grocery look on their faces
push you out of the way to get to the ice cream
cut in line at the cash register, drive their car
like they’re in the Indianapolis 500
yell constantly at their kids
even strive their kids…
people who stare expressionless at the cashier
accuse her of everything from theft to incompetence
these minimum wage workers
holding down three jobs, on food stamps
living in a ratty, overpriced apartment
these people (I don’t mean the working poor)
drive me crazy, eat away at my sense
of living in a sane society, one of compassion
and spirituality…far too many lacking a conscience
a understanding of what fellowship means
here in America
