It is a real issue with writing when you write about real life how to not hurt anyone. This goes beyond FB to blog and websites and publications and articles in the paper. One way to deal with it is to keep the focus on yourself. Another way is to put some writing on the shelf for a while–or forever. This is a spin-off from concerns that a counselor has about confidentiality; I identify with that concern as a counselor trained person who has been through the fire when it comes to the issue of when it is ok or necessary to breach confidentiality (There are situations like that). Getting a paper release is not the only issue that arises. There ARE boderline situations that people in the field sometimes avoid talking about. It is best to lay out those exceptions early in the counseling process–though few counselors do.
